    Merlin 2 x 11: The Witch's Quickening
    Just watched the latest Merlin.

    Oh, the dragon is not as patient as I expected.

    Mom can't eat wheat. Here's a flour-less choc cake.
    Choooooocolate.

    Completely wheat-free.



    Flourless Chocolate Cake
    (Recipe source The Gourmet Cookbook)

    Ingredients:

    8 ounces good quality bittersweet (not semi-sweet) chocolate, roughly chopped
    2 sticks unsalted butter, cut into pieces
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    6 eggs
    1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Generously grease a 9 or 10 inch springform pan and line the bottom with wax or parchment paper (cut into a circle to fit bottom of pan). Make sure to grease the liner as well.

    In a double broiler or in a large bowl over a pan of simmering water, add chocolate and butter. Stir constantly until melted. Remove bowl from heat and whisk in sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Last, sift cocoa powder into mixture and whisk until just combined.

    Pour batter into prepared springform pan and bake for 35-40 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out with moist crumbs and top should have a thin crust. Cool cake in pan on a rack for 10 minutes and then remove sides of pan. Invert cake on a plate and then back onto the rack to fully cool before serving.

    Yield: 10-12 servings

    Savage by Anon at [info]hd_holidays (Harry/Draco, NC-17: some violence, 19K)
    In a post-war world that lives in fear and ignorance of werewolves, Draco Malfoy has taken every step to keep his condition hidden. When the delicate balance of his life shatters in a single moment, it is Harry Potter alone standing in his defence.

    ALERT: H/D HAS WEREWOLF FIC. NO ONE TOLD ME THIS. a;lskdjf. Remus fen all over my flist, if you don't actively hate H/D, head on over and check out this fic. (Er- and everyone else, too). :) It does all the things I love about werewolf fic and then some, and it does it with Draco as the werewolf. It's canon-compliant, completely plausible in the universe it establishes (oh hi, Greyback skulking around Malfoy Manor during the war, RIGHT?), and the sex scenes are hot as hell. There is also a wonderful scene between Draco and 10-year-old Teddy, who is also a werewolf (which is very nicely explained), a fantastic OC in the Ministry, and one Harry freaking Potter who works for werewolf rights and is all about saving the world again, and just, a;slkdjf. Fantastic story.

    The Distraction of Attraction by Anon at [info]bestmates_xmas (Harry/Ron, NC-17, 6K or so)
    Harry discovers the perfection of Ron's derriere.

    Looking for some lighter fare? Oh my God, I was stuffing my fist into my mouth to keep from laughing out loud at this one. Wonderful characterisations of Harry, Ron and Hermione as they try to complete an Auror-training assignment that features one irritating catch, courtesy their instructor: they all have been hexed with a distraction to keep them from completing the task. Harry's is... Ron's arse. *dying* This is a terrifically well-constructed fic, plot-wise, in addition to just being funny and cute and awesome. :)

    Winter's Day by Anon at [info]ficadron (Ron/Draco, PG-13, 2K)
    Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice.

    Short and incredibly lovely, this fic gives us a brief glimpse of one cold winter day as Ron and Draco work through an unnamed problem in their relationship. Not really a conversion fic, if you don't believe they'd ever be together in the first place, but an incredibly touching look at what must be a difficult relationship, if you do. :)

    One Step by Anon at [info]ficadron (Ron/Draco, NC-17: AU, past abuse that is heavily implied as sexual as well as physical, 13K)
    My summary: Bill and Fleur both turned to look sharply at him. "It's all right," Ron said quickly, not wanting his brother to think that he had put him and Fleur - or their home - purposefully in danger. "He's not armed. He hasn't got a wand. He… he's defected. I think. At least, that's what he told me."

    Gah, I didn't even know about this fest until yesterday, and then was doing recsletter stuff and fell in love with two stories from it. a;lksj. :) This is completely different from the fic above, but just as well-written and compelling. It's a bit AU from DH, but also fits very well into canon. Set after Ron leaves Harry and Hermione, it supposes that he finds a recently-escaped Draco in the forest and brings him to Shell Cottage to recover. The banter between them is some of the best I've seen for this pairing, tbh: harsh, horrible insults, but also a shared sense of camaraderie, and just, yeah. Incredibly well done. The ending is terrific, too.

    Also! Remember how I was talking about Kinky Kristmas at daily_deviant the other day, and how I'd put prompts in and stuff? I've already got two fics out of it! *dances*

    Give Her What She Wants by Anon at [info]daily_deviant (Draco/Hermione, NC-17: BDSM, 4K)
    Hermione missed out on the dinner party because she was otherwise occupied, since Draco gave her exactly what she wanted and more.

    So, I was writing for [info]hd_career_fair and fell a bit in love with the idea of Dom!Draco, and then this prompt happened. :D I have a soft spot for filthy Draco het, what can I say. Don't judge! :) Smoking hot fic, this is, with some great work with exhibitionism and voyeurism and nnnrf, the relationship between Draco and Hermione is amazing. And the ending melted my little heart. :)

    What is Right by Anon at [info]daily_deviant (Harry/Scorpius, NC-17: infidelity, 5K)
    While looking for Albus, Harry learns something about his son’s best friend he was probably better off not knowing.

    Infidelity!fic win! I love this pairing for that theme, I really do. Here, Harry and Scorpius are on a road trip together, locked in small motel rooms, and really, they're only human. What do you expect to happen?! :) *swats Harry* Don't look so surprised. The kid is fit, okay? :D But it's not all PWP; there is a nice bit of angst to it, and Scorpius, bless him, will surprise you a little bit. Wonderful story.

    Do you know what is super wrong with my response to this item from regretsy?

    It's that when I glanced at it, after observing the title "This is how we love," the silhouette I saw was Jar-Jar Binks on the right, and my immediate problem with this as a representation of love was that Padme's hair is never all stringy like that, and Anakin's is never long enough to be like that.

    Naruto Bleach-style!
    This is bloody awesome! Naruto, Bleach-style from Naruto 10th Anniversary Special Fanbook 2 (Via [info]lyssaphra and Bleach newsletter).

    And this clearly shows why I love Bleach better than Naruto (although I like Naruto too): among other things, it's simply a question of art style preferences. If Naruto were drawn this way, I'd fall head over heels for it despite its first 20 volumes :D

    The candle made shadows like lace on the wall. The low, omnipresent buzz of electricity was gone.

    The kitties cuddled close in confusion. Just because they can see in the dark doesn't mean they like to.

    The laundry silenced halfway through its cycle.

    The baking had to stay in the fridge.

    Eastwick was on ... somewhere else.

    The streetlights vanished.

    Then the whole world restarted again.

    An interesting article about dating.

    My favorite points --

    Values vs Interests: Having the same values as your partner is truly a must. Its the glue that keeps you bonding, growing together and connected. Interests are different. For example if you VALUE a family, a belief in a higher being or power, or a fit and health conscious lifestyle your partner should equally believe these are significant in his/her own life. Interests like playing soccer, dance, rock climbing, fishing, fashion or shall I say YOGA, don’t determine compatibility. You don’t have to share every single interest with your partner to make it work.


    So true. I've been noticing on online dating sites that people go on and on about interests.

    Individuality within a Couple: WHO ARE YOU? Do you know what you desire? What are your dreams? Being an individual is probably one of the more difficult things to hang on to within a relationship. We can get lost in another’s own view and dreams. Staying true to our own desires and dreams is equally important. It makes us happier because we are living our desires and growing from that place. You can’t grow living to please another or gaining approval from another. You are then living another person’s life, and that eventually manifests into resentment, hurt and pain.


    I confess, I relied a lot on WG's advice when we were together. He had a knack for seeing straight to the heart of the matter (which holds true regardless of how he's treating me right now). It's fuzzy now how much of that meant he was steering the boat.

    Please STOP HIDING who you are! Be yourself, completely. From date one present your authentic self. If you don’t usually wear make up or dress a certain way, then don’t do it for the first date. If you don’t like sports than say so and don’t pretend to be the “sports chick or jock”. If you absolutely dislike smoking than don’t pretend to be ok with that habit in another if you really aren’t. What you are is what you are. Being proud of that is really the first lesson to learn before even attempting to find a date. Pretending to be someone you are not, is not only difficult to maintain but a lie you have to live. How fun is that?


    This is so tempting. I'm such a no-makeup, misplaced my comb a week ago kind of gal. But I'm thinking of trying out a different look, playing with a new hairstyle, wearing more makeup than I have been in school. But that's for me though, so I think it's not a pretense.

    Funny. I've never dated. Guys have always found me.

    Woe, dreams do not become reality just because they were (mostly) delicious
    This morning I woke from a very involved dream about making cookies. Lots of kinds of cookies, with chocolate and nuts and drop cookies and bar cookies and vanilla and mint and mmmm, but most especially this variant on sugar cookies with this frosting that was magically shape-able like fondant, only didn't taste godawful and also was soft and yummy.

    Also in the dream, at one point I was repeatedly following Gwen out of Camelot and losing her at some sort of weird hidden path that went on the side of the boulder that didn't exist; I would come back and 1. make more cookies, and 2. listen to additional/ongoing discussion on the importance of calling in the right people to resolve the problem when there are unusual incidents at work (with worksheets and group activities and all the other trappings of an all-day training on something lame), and then follow her again (and lose her again), and so on.

    Then, more cookies.

    I cannot tell you how sad I was to find no cookies whatsoever in my kitchen on getting up. The lecture on public-safety calls I was okay not to find underway, but. Cookies! I can practically taste them, and yet, they are not here. Also not here: Camelot. *wail*

    I was supposed to go to Seattle September 9th. I had the tickets and it was all set. We were going to go through all our things together and split them up. Take things to Goodwill. I was going to help him move. I was going to take him to his oral surgery appointment. I was going to put together furniture for him in his new apartment. I was going to spend some time with Monte kitty to say goodbye.

    He called me and asked me not to come. He'd send me my things.

    Why did I trust him?

    Hiiiiiii.
    *comes up for air*

    OH GOD, FLIST. Is there any better feeling in the world than finishing a deadlined-fic and sitting back, cracking a beverage of your choice, and just, like, not writing fic for at least 24 hours? a;lskjdf. I like writing fic, don't get me wrong. But that feeling you get after finally finishing something you've been sort of chewing on for awhile? Yeah. That's a damn good feeling. :D

    Fic-writing binge included making a pot of coffee and writing several thousand words on my birthday last week, which, aaaaaah, how awesome is that?! It was a great day overall, for several reasons, and thanks so much to everyone who wished me well or got me awesome v-gifts and things like that. ♥ ♥ ♥ ! I really appreciated it. Fic-writing in pyjamas with coffee and chocolate! Nothing better.

    I have fic recs from like a hundred years ago that I need to write up, and how on earth is it already December 1 tomorrow?! Well, better do it tomorrow, or you'll all be distracted with shiny holiday fests starting. :)

    Speaking of which... you're all posting about which ones you'll be watching, so, sure, here goes: my one real commitment is [info]smutty_claus, because that's the only one I'm in, but I'm also going to keep an eye on [info]snupin_santa, naturally, and probably [info]hp_yule_balls and/or [info]hd_holidays a little bit.

    And! [info]r_grayjoy kindly reminded me this morning that I have potential gifts coming from prompts I submitted to [info]daily_deviant's Kinky Kristmas fest! Not that I'd forgotten it was happening, but I did forget I'd left prompts a few months ago. *headdesk* I just went back and checked my prompts and THEY ARE AWESOME and got claimed and stuff so I'm super excited to see them. :) By the way, listen: I tend to run around the internet leaving prompts wherever they're solicited, so if you've ever claimed one that is meant to have names attached (I always assume they're just sort of going in an anon pile) and written something for me and I haven't seen it because I fail, point it out to me PLEASE. :)

    Random: [info]smutty_claus and Kinky Kristmas have my favourite banners and icons so far, though. Hiiiiii, sexy women in lingerie and boots and stuff. ♥

    No matter what fests you're following, though, be sure to take a second and leave a few words of feedback if you see something you like.     I appreciate your industrious hacking away at the (somewhat-past-)due fic, but some of these errors of logic and departures from expectation as you go along are a bit ridiculous.

    For instance, "building" and "bukkake" (of which there is none expected in this fic) are really quite not at all the same thing, and are not interchangeable.

    Pls to type what (and only what) the brain says now.

    Random things, and art recs
    FACT: When you are used to writing antagonistic pairings, writing friendship pairings is hard. And features way too many OOC fights before the sex. :/

    FACT: I heard some old Heart song on... IDK, a bathroom cleaner commercial or something the other day, and now I can't get it out of my head. Also, it has now become the soundtrack for my [info]smutty_claus story. I... don't know if this is a good thing or not.

    ... but man, those chicks could rock, riiiight? *air guitar*

    FACT: The S.O. and I just heroically got out, by exploiting a technicality, of a horrible Thanksgiving dinner we were supposed to go to tomorrow, hosted by the distant relations of a pseudo-acquaintance. Yes! *fist pump* Pyjamas and bacon sandwiches on the couch by ourselves, here we come. Thank God. Americans, I love you and appreciate that you love Thanksgiving so much, but honestly, I usually have better things to do on my birthday or close to than hang out with other people's families who invite the foreigners out of pity. I appreciate the gesture, but, no. Just, no. :)

    Mind the warnings, please: this is a very dark piece, thematically. It stunned the breath right out of me with its implications.     500,000 animals being slaughtered right now.
    My mom has been talking about this for weeks:

    On Tuesday, November 24th the Gadimai animal sacrifice festival will take place in southern Nepal. It is said that 500,000 animals including buffaloes, chickens, goats, pigs, rats, and birds will be tortured and slaughtered during this Hindu festival.

    In India, the ritual slaughter of animals in such rites as the Agnicayana has long been replaced with effigies. There is no religious reason for this throwback. Despite the detailed instructions in Leviticus, Judaism no longer sacrifices the fatted calf. Like that.
